Kelly Taylor – Aboriginal Artist
Kelly Taylor Aboriginal Artist
Contemporary Aboriginal Artist | South Australia
Kelly Taylor is a contemporary Aboriginal artist and cultural custodian based in South Australia. Her paintings are known for powerful storytelling, reflecting deep connections to Country, family and ancestral knowledge passed down through generations.
Her artworks are held in private collections across Australia and internationally. Through colour, movement and symbolism, Kelly shares stories of life on Country, family gatherings, journeys across the land and cultural traditions carried forward through family.
Born in 1978 and raised with strong cultural guidance from family and Elders, Kelly’s art practice is grounded in storytelling, connection and cultural responsibility.
She is the founder of KT Aboriginal Fine Art, where she now paints alongside her daughters Taliyah, T’keyah and Kelilah, continuing a powerful three-generation family legacy that began with her grandmother Millie Terone Lennon and great-grandmother Molly Terone Lennon from the APY Lands.

Connection to Country
Kelly’s artwork comes from lived experience on Country. Her paintings reflect time spent collecting bush medicine leaves, gathering bush foods and visiting sacred waterholes, rockholes and cultural sites.
These places carry deep knowledge and ancestral presence. Through colour, pattern and movement, Kelly translates those experiences onto canvas, sharing the memories, healing and responsibilities that come with caring for Country.
Each painting carries elements of journey, gathering and connection, helping keep cultural knowledge alive for future generations.
Artistic Style and Process
Kelly works primarily with acrylic on canvas, using layered colour, fine dot work and flowing line work to create depth and movement within each composition.
Every painting begins with a story and a clear intention about what she wants people to feel when they stand in front of the work.
- Beginning with the cultural story and its meaning
- Mapping the journey and design across the canvas
- Building base layers of colour and landscape
- Adding symbolic elements and detailed dot work
- Refining the painting until the story feels complete
Signature Style
Kelly’s signature style features flowing brush-stroke symbols filled with fine creeper dots, creating rhythm and movement across the canvas.
Her artworks often combine rich desert palettes, night-sky blues and warm earth tones while weaving together waterholes, pathways, gatherings and landscapes.
This balance between traditional symbolism and contemporary composition allows her work to sit comfortably in private collections, interiors and larger public spaces.
Cultural Responsibility
Every artwork Kelly creates follows cultural protocols and family consultation. She paints only stories she holds custodianship for and avoids sacred or restricted imagery in commercial work.
Her paintings often reference:
- Stories passed down from her grandmother Millie and great-grandmother Molly
- Journeys across Country and family gatherings
- Connections between Elders, ancestors and future generations
Each artwork is accompanied by a story card and Certificate of Authenticity so collectors understand the meaning and responsibility behind the work.
Vision for KT Aboriginal Fine Art
Kelly’s vision is to grow KT Aboriginal Fine Art into a strong family-led studio that supports her daughters’ artistic careers while sharing authentic Aboriginal stories with audiences across Australia and internationally.
The studio continues to expand across:
- Original artworks
